SpongeBob "GoodBob" SquarePants (b. July 14, 1986) is the main protagonist and the eponymous character of the Nickelodeon animated comedy series of the same name. He was designed by marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg, and is voiced by Tom Kenny. SpongeBob's a childish, joyful, eccentric sea sponge who lives in a pineapple in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom. He works as a fry cook at The Krusty Krab, a job that he is exceptionally skilled. SpongeBob lacks a lot of knowledge and is a constant annoyance to those around him (especially Squidward Tentacles), but he is very good natured. His neighbors are Squidward Tentacles, who lives in an Easter Island head and is constantly annoyed by SpongeBob, and Patrick Star, his best friend, who lives under a rock. SpongeBob believes Squidward is his friend despite Squidward’s obvious dislike of him. When SpongeBob first arrived in Bikini Bottom, a pineapple fell from a boat above and landed where Squidward’s garden had been, and SpongeBob happily chose it as his home.

SpongeBob works as a fry cook at the Krusty Krab, Bikini Bottom’s most popular restaurant, where he prepares Krabby Patties with extraordinary speed and skill. In the first episode, “Help Wanted,” he is hired after successfully feeding a swarm of anchovies using a hydrodynamic spatula he was sent to find as a joke. He treats his job with extreme passion, has won hundreds of Employee of the Month awards, and is shown to have had cooking talent even as a baby. His boss, Eugene H. Krabs, is greedy and underpays his employees, while Squidward works as the cashier and dislikes both the job and SpongeBob’s enthusiasm. Despite this, SpongeBob deeply respects Mr. Krabs and remains devoted to his work.

Outside of work, SpongeBob spends most of his time with Patrick and Sandy Cheeks, a squirrel from Texas who lives underwater in an air-filled Treedome and shares his love of activities like jellyfishing and karate. SpongeBob also attends Mrs. Puff’s Boating School, where he has failed his driving test countless times due to panic behind the wheel. Although he is friendly and well-meaning, many citizens of Bikini Bottom find him exhausting, even creating a “National No SpongeBob Day” to get a break from him. Throughout the series, he is portrayed as childish, energetic, and endlessly optimistic, with a wide circle of friends, unusual talents, and a life centered around fun, friendship, and his love for making Krabby Patties.

SpongeBob SquarePants is very immature and clueless, and his laugh is often annoying to those around him. He can be over-dramatic and sensitive, especially when it comes to fry cooking, but he is very kind natured. He is also extremely clueless and gullible like his friend, Patrick Star, he usually gets tricked easily by Mr. Krabs, Squidward, and anyone else that is clear to use him or want to hurt him, SpongeBob is never shown to bear a grudge to anyone. SpongeBob also has shown a enormous talent in many things like karate techniques, jellyfishing, bubble blowing and being a "frycook".

SpongeBob hailed from an important family in Bikini Bottom. His ancestor, SpongeBuck SquarePants, defeated the evil Dead Eye Plankton in Dead Eye Gulch, a small western-themed village, which later became a big city named Bikini Bottom under SpongeBuck's leadership.

SpongeBob is shown to be a good friend (despite him being annoying) to almost everyone, except Plankton. However, on occasions, he is friends with him.

He appears in almost all of the episodes in the series. He later was soon to be Nickelodeon's main mascot. He is a very nice person by helping out a guy named Crack Miser, But later he was sad that he passed away.

He has autism, asexuality, and a huge cock.

Overview & Biography

Conception and Background

Bob the Sponge in the 1980s.

The idea that became SpongeBob SquarePants began long before the show reached television. Stephen Hillenburg, a marine biology graduate with a passion for art, taught at the Ocean Institute in the late 1980s and created an educational comic called The Intertidal Zone to teach students about tide pools. The comic featured anthropomorphic sea life, including an early version of a sponge character. These illustrations and character ideas laid the groundwork for what would evolve into SpongeBob and Bikini Bottom, blending scientific curiosity with cartoon inventiveness. This early foundation helped shape Hillenburg’s vision for a world where undersea creatures could be animated with personality and humor.

Hillenburg delivering SpongeBob to Nickelodeon

As Hillenburg transitioned into animation after working on Rocko’s Modern Life, he began formalizing his concept in the mid-1990s. A series pitch bible was developed through revisions between 1996 and 1997, originally under the working title SpongeBoy (with the protagonist named SpongeBoy) and later SpongeBob SquarePants when legal issues forced a name change. The bible detailed the setting of Bikini Bottom, character biographies, and episode ideas, conveying the tone and structure of the proposed series. Nickelodeon executives requested that SpongeBob attend school, leading Hillenburg to invent Mrs. Puff and a boating school so the character could remain an adult while satisfying the network’s criteria.

SpongeBob cast in Pitch Bible
SpongeBob glitched footage in 1997

In 1997 Hillenburg and his collaborators storyboarded and produced a seven-minute pilot episode titled Help Wanted to pitch the series to Nickelodeon. The original pilot build, sometimes referred to by fans as the early Spongeboy Ahoy version, contained variations on character designs and sequences that would later appear in the officially released series. Production steps included scripting, storyboarding, and voice recording by Hillenburg and his team, who had worked together on Rocko’s Modern Life. Although the seven-minute piece was completed in 1997, changes and edits continued into 1999 as the series prepared for broadcast.

Although the pilot was finished in 1997, it was not broadcast until the show’s official debut in 1999. Nickelodeon revised aspects of the episode, refining audio, visuals, and credits before airing Help Wanted as the premiere episode on May 1, 1999. This delay from production to broadcast reflected the network’s scheduling, marketing strategy, and post-production process. When the series launched, its distinct charm, vibrant world, and optimistic lead character quickly secured a place in popular culture, marking the transformation of Hillenburg’s early concept into a lasting animated franchise.

2000s

SpongeBob eager to work for low wages.

Across early episodes, SpongeBob is defined first by relentless enthusiasm and sincerity. In Help Wanted, his determination to become a fry cook is so intense that it borders on absurdity, yet it comes from a genuine love of the Krusty Krab and pride in doing simple work well. That same energy drives him in Pizza Delivery, where a frustrating journey becomes an adventure powered by optimism rather than complaints. In Band Geeks, his unshakable belief that practice and teamwork will succeed helps transform Squidward’s hopeless band into a triumphant performance. These moments show a character whose optimism is not naïve passivity but an active force that pushes situations toward unlikely success.

SpongeBob’s imagination is another core trait, turning ordinary or empty spaces into elaborate experiences. In Idiot Box, a cardboard box becomes an entire world of sound and adventure, revealing how deeply he commits to pretend play. Club SpongeBob shows a similar instinct, as he treats survival in the wilderness like an imaginative game guided by absurd “magic conch” wisdom. Even in Rock Bottom, a frightening and confusing place is met with curiosity and awkward perseverance rather than panic. His mind reframes discomfort into something manageable, often entertaining, suggesting that his creativity is both a coping mechanism and a source of joy.

SpongeBob providing the crew moral support

His kindness and loyalty, especially toward Patrick, repeatedly define his social world. In Chocolate With Nuts, SpongeBob enthusiastically supports a doomed sales plan simply because it is something he and Patrick can do together. Opposite Day highlights how deeply he cares about maintaining friendships, going to strange lengths to help Squidward feel at home. The Camping Episode shows him trying to include Squidward in fun rather than exclude him, even when Squidward resists. SpongeBob’s friendliness is not selective; he assumes everyone should be part of the experience, whether they want to be or not.

The full Krusty Krew

At the same time, SpongeBob’s innocence often crosses into obliviousness, creating chaos despite good intentions. In Wet Painters, strict rule-following spirals into panic and destruction because he cannot think flexibly. No Free Rides shows how his eagerness to please Mrs. Puff leads to reckless mistakes behind the wheel. Something Smells reveals how unaware he can be of social cues, confidently misreading why others avoid him. His flaws come not from malice but from a childlike literalness and inability to recognize when situations require subtlety rather than enthusiasm.

Finally, SpongeBob is ambitious in oddly specific ways, constantly chasing small dreams with outsized passion. In Patty Hype, he invents colorful novelty foods with pride, convinced of their brilliance. The Fry Cook Games turns a workplace rivalry into an epic athletic competition in his mind. Arrgh! shows him embracing a pirate treasure hunt with wholehearted excitement, while As Seen On TV reveals how easily he is swept up in trends and commercial fantasies. Together, these episodes portray SpongeBob as someone who approaches every task, no matter how trivial, as if it carries epic importance—an outlook that makes his world vibrant, chaotic, and endlessly sincere.

SpongeBob SquarePants Movie

In The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, SpongeBob SquarePants is crushed after being denied a promotion at the Krusty Krab 2, a setback that makes others doubt his maturity. Soon after, King Neptune storms into the Krusty Krab and accuses Eugene H. Krabs of stealing his crown. Determined to prove himself and save his boss, SpongeBob volunteers to retrieve the crown from the dangerous Shell City, setting the story’s quest in motion. Accompanied by Patrick Star, SpongeBob travels far beyond Bikini Bottom, facing hazards that test his endurance and optimism. Along the way, it becomes clear that Sheldon J. Plankton has orchestrated the crisis as part of a larger scheme to control the city. Despite setbacks and moments of doubt, SpongeBob’s persistence and faith in doing the right thing keep the mission alive.

After reaching Shell City and surviving near defeat, SpongeBob returns with the crown just as Plankton’s plan reaches its peak. He exposes the deception, frees the citizens from Plankton’s control, and stands up with newfound confidence. By the end, SpongeBob demonstrates that his childlike spirit is a source of courage and integrity, earning recognition while saving Bikini Bottom from disaster.

Role in the Omniverse

SpongeBob preparing for lift off

An alternate SpongeBob exists in the Plankton created universe in The Algae's Always Greener world where Plankton was successful. Like his mainstream counterpart, he likes his career, likes promotions and gets sad when he makes an error in someone's order. The most significant difference is that he was made co-cashier by Plankton and is employed by him.

An alternate SpongeBob is mentioned in every short of the series, What if SpongeBob was Gone is one example: without him, Gary threw a humongous party that ended in disaster; Patrick in this universe cannot hunt jellyfish properly; Sandy gets injured when playing karate and the Krusty Krab ends in ruins and all would say except Gary, everything's better with SpongeBob.

SpongeBob also has friends from other universes as shown in the video game Nicktoons Unite and its other sequels, Nicktoons: Battle for Volcano Island, Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots and SpongeBob SquarePants featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom, the last of which is adapted for the Great Crossover Divide also known as the Fanboy and Chum Chum Bible or Omniverse Saga. In these games, he and Patrick befriend Timmy Turner (as well as his fairy godparents Cosmo and Wanda), Danny Phantom, Sam Manson, Tak, ZIM, XJ9/Jenny, Stimpy, Jimmy Neutron, Tucker Foley, Goddard, Rocko, and Gir.

In the prologue within the SBFW continuity, before the war between the 𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂 SUSiety and the NPC Alliance, before the Dimensional Merge, various worlds were locked between what became known as good and bad NPCs with various individuals gaining Memetic Gestalt Syndrome to troll both sides. There were different names for these hero teams and villian teams but they all served the Collective Omniverse fighting simple narratives of good vs. evil. Throughout the Canon and Fanon SpongeBob multiverse there are various worlds that GoodBob and his allies travel to.

In SB-105, a french backed superhero team known as Jardin d'Égide led by two new protagonists, Pato and Natsuki who were connected to Club Raiden and the Tennis Shoe Leprechauns of that dimension went up against, Тени Клинки led by Нет who were backed by King Caden, a ruthless ruler of New Kelp City who allowed injustice to rise in the streets but was downplaying his connections to the gangstas which included Mr. Game & Watch who while not in power occasionally showed up to destory the protagonists. There were four Leprechauns deemed heroes who saved the world, they were the Nier androids of Natsuki, Sayori, Yuri, and Amy. Monika wasn't included because she's a LARPer and a fraud. Amy who was the most significant of the Tennis Shoe Leprechauns wasn't with the hero protagonist Pato and was instead with Dan Daffy Duck who split herself years thousands of years ago to form the twins, Hänsel and Gretel.

Dan Daffy Duck would be frenemies with Pato who be both respected and despised. At one point he would create a prototype for his dream micro nation and call it DanTown in which 1000s of heroes would fight him while being at his most delusional state. Edward SquarePants who was Gangsta-Bob in Frightside and other dimensions worked with the Belly Buster Gang propping up terrorism with Тени Клинки. Back in Texas and the greater Nicktoon Multiverse side of the conflict, B.O.O.T.S. was fighting against C.E.R.N. in the overarching setting before the NPC Alliance entity who was Omniversal and always watching was named.

There is also an eviler version of Plankton known as Leader Plankton who seeks to open up universes to other SBFW universes, he's not really important aside from giving the heroes and villians to fight over in what would become the Invincibubble War where various "GoodBobs" fight against the "Gangsta-Bobs" in a simple conflict of good vs evil. B.O.O.T.S. who was basically the American version of F.E.E.T. for the setting of SBFW's Multiverse had numerous connections to ACME corporation. CERN and BOOTS were both studying the God Particle and the Dimensional Merge and so was Gangsta-Bob who on one hand acted as the older protector of GoodBob yet at the same time was a ruthless criminal and serial killer doing anything to understand the Gestalt Gene. At some point he summoned a small fragment of the Vermilion King's own power who at this point was just Gangsta-Bob's own shadow manifested as a warlord using the relics he collected as he kidnapped children to obtain them and watched as Bikini Bottom became Crossover Bottom under the King's wrath. This was the first stage that would hint at the Dimensional Merge before 2024.

GoodBob's constant rejection of the evil would at some point cause the very evil to remerge even stronger as the Freaky gene would bounce off of him even the Anti NPC Rebellion who started off as a force of individuals with good intentions especially the Crocs and the UAKKC led by Hans the fish. Cade Funfish was the biggest source of funny terrorism in that realm, a fish who started off somewhat werid would gain traction as the Number 1 terrorist of Bikini Bottom even beating out the previous team up of Нет and Farfour. Aleast in that realm the Frenized Flame had to spread through subtlety, but in other realms the Anti NPC Rebellion targeted heroes with true destructive intent.

While SB-105 had the Memetic Gestalt Syndrome spread through heroes who despised the system and were slowly awakening the Frenized Flame within them. In the Cult of Squid Continuity things were much darker for the heroes, the Feathered Friends were enemies against the Cult of Squid who edvenutally sided against the worse enemies after Smugward obtained the Book of the Damned to overthrow Satan sparking a war between light and dark and allowing the new Satan of that dimension to take over, this wasn’t the Vermillion darkness, but a smaller threat who was just a minor enemy. The Cult had fought a worse opponent, LRH who was the ruler of Atlantis had enough of the Cult and awakened the Vermillion gene calling it a rebirth. He would show up as President Smolder embracing his connection with the Frenzied Flame and was immortal. LRH wanted a full on cosmic rebirth, and described this plan as Project Phoenix which was subtle foreshadowing to the Nugetian Meat-cycle. Smugward now teamed up with his enemies and saught to end the war he caused.

While GoodBob was fighting the Gangstas in various timelines he noticed individuals with Memetic Gestalt Syndrome who became the bigger foe afterwards and saught to fight them and even his enemies such as Gangsta-Bob would find a problem with them. Edvenutally various worlds were found fighting the 𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂 SUSiety having taken the various 𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂 characters who built an opposition to both the heroes and things would never be the same.

Other SpongeBobs exist throughout non-TV media however in Fanboy and Chum Chum Lore Bible, every alternative version of SpongeBob is condensed into three entities, GoodBob, FreakyBob, and GangstaBob each carrying their own vibe.

Characteristics

SpongeBob if drawn by Ken Sugimori (Credit: Pongo99)

SpongeBob SquarePants is a cute sea sponge, but he is drawn to resemble a kitchen sponge, being rectangular and bright yellow with a dark brown outline. In earlier episodes (i: e Hillenberg-era), he is wider near the top and gets skinnier going further down, but in more recent episodes, he is more of a regular square shape. SpongeBob is a short, square-shaped sea sponge who more closely resembles a kitchen sponge. He has bright yellow skin with a wavy outline and many deep-yellow holes scattered throughout his body: seven on his face, four on each of his sides, nine on his back and five on top of his head. He has very large, blue eyes with three black eyelashes on each eye. He has a wide mouth with a red interior, a visible chin, pink tongue and two white buckteeth on his upper jaw. His nose is long and points upward and he has three red freckles on each of his cheeks. He also has long, thin limbs that end in small hands and feet. For attire, SpongeBob wears his signature square pants that consist of a pair of light brown shorts, a white, short-sleeved collared shirt and a red necktie. He also wears a pair of squeaky black shoes and white, knee-length socks, each with one blue stripe and one red stripe. While working at the Krusty Krab, he wears a tall, white hat with a small blue anchor on it as a uniform. SpongeBob sometimes sleeps in his underwear, and at other times pajamas (beginning in Season 5). Though SpongeBob has always been voiced by Tom Kenny, his voice has changed over the course of the series; his voice is lower than normal in the pilot episode, Help Wanted and after the movie, his voice gets slightly higher-pitched. And also, SpongeBob never passed Boating School.

Personality

SpongeBob's carefree attitude in a nutshell

SpongeBob is a very clueless, abnormal, immature, fun loving and hyperactive character with a happy-go-lucky personality. He is an extremely determined person, and will often stop at nothing to accomplish a task. He is also somewhat dramatic to the people who are kind to him, for example, to the mailfish. Karate Island He is also over-confident. Sometimes, though, he shows his devious side when trying to get Mr. Krabs and Plankton to work together. He sometimes tends to make mountains out of molehills, such as losing his name tag, in Missing Identity

SpongeBob is very kind-hearted and innocent, and very rarely acts openly mean to anyone, even his enemies. He is a very selfless and loyal person, especially towards those close to him. His selfless nature is most notably shown in "Best Day Ever," where he sacrifices his "perfect day" to help his friends. Despite his well-meaning intentions, SpongeBob's actions often annoy and cause trouble for those around him, most notably his next-door neighbor, Squidward Tentacles.

SpongeBob can become scared easily and usually panics when frightened. He is afraid of the dark (or what's in the dark) and clowns. Occasionally, SpongeBob is too ignorant to notice impending danger and his unworldly thinking may put himself or others in peril. He also can't detect lies or malice information as easy as the other characters, mainly due to his naive nature.

SpongeBob's innocence also makes him overly trusting and very gullible, and he is easily manipulated by people who intend to use and/or harm him, such as Squidward, Mr. Krabs and Plankton; most noticeably, he is always easily fooled by Plankton no matter how bizarre or obvious his disguises are. Even though he's generally good-natured and easygoing, when frustrated and angered, SpongeBob can be sarcastic, rude and 'foul-mouthed' to his friends, even Mr. Krabs, whom he treats as a father figure. Ironically, Squidward is the only character that SpongeBob never insults when he's angry, with the exception of the episode Can You Spare a Dime?.

Squidward is given instructions to take pills from God.

In the context of AI Sponge, AbsoluteNutcase Comics, and the Coochieverse, SpongeBob's personality remains largely true to his original character traits of being quirky, optimistic, and always eager to help others. However, due to the unique and sometimes fantastical situations he finds himself in, his personality may be tested and evolve in various ways as he faces challenges and interacts with new characters. SpongeBob's core personality traits of being optimistic, kind-hearted, and always striving to do good may shine through, even as he faces unique challenges and adventures in his underwater world. SpongeBob is very energetic, fun-loving, and naive sponge. Despite this, he does know right from wrong, as he did of approve of Mrs. Puff being called a 'big fat meanie" and does not tolerate insults. SpongeBob is shown to be a hard worker, immensely dedicated to his job and even enjoying it. Always finishing a job and not wishing to stop working. When something is meant as a punishment, he often enjoys it if it involves working overtime, showing he is quite responisble. However, he does appear to have standards as he is shown to be exhausted by overworking. He is also somewhat childish, enjoying to play games and watching cartoons. He is also somewhat naive, as he does not realize Squidward and Mrs. Puff's annoyance of him. he is also shown to be somewhat cowardly, as he is easily frightened when the lights are off or when he encounters a ghost. He is also a bit sensitive, as he can easily be made cry. SpongeBob is overall a friendly individual, wishing to be a friend with anyone around him, even if they don't see him as their friend. He is also very supportive and caring to his friends and family.

One comic from AbsoluteNutcase162

Across these YouTube videos, SpongeBob’s core optimism and innocence usually shine through, but authors frequently crank his traits to extremes. Overall, fan authors keep him optimistic and caring, yet gleefully remix his naivety, fearfulness or work ethic in strange new ways. Uncle Al’s the Coochieverse, in this delightfully edgy and humorous comedy YouTube parody series remixes SpongeBob into an absurdly warped world. In it, SpongeBob goes from his usual innocent self into a totally manic, over-the-top cartoon character – think twisted slapstick and bizarre gags. Videos often show him screaming and behaving insanely, which pushes his hyperactive side into chaos as he interacts with Coochie Squidward and his beefaroni. AI Sponge shows a surreal web series of different user generated AI-generated episodes each known for their own gags. SpongeBob takes his usual “childish, joyful, hardworking, silly", as the context is extremely twisted. He ends up multilingual, even a war veteran with PTSD, yet his basic goofiness remains. For example, one AI Sponge episode has him simply quitting the Krusty Krab: “‘the Krusty Krab … was bad’,” illustrating his cartoonish honesty. AI Sponge can exaggerate his naiveté and energy into a bizarre, sometimes dark comedy, mixing innocence with unexpectedly heavy background.

The absurdist meme series, Absolutenutcase162’s SpongeBob Comics shows SpongeBob’s personality as wildly inconsistent: sometimes polite and kind, other times aggressively foul-mouthed depending on the panel. His chaotic humor rules in these collection of comics as one panel might show him sweet and caring, the next using slurs at characters, as he bounces from one extreme to another without explanation (e.g. in “We Have Come for Your Nectar,” as he blurts absurd threats).

The years after the time-skip hardened SpongeBob into something unrecognizable to those who once knew him, the events of the Fanboy and Chum Chum Lore Bible show a different darker version of the usual world of Bikini Bottom where the nation as been industrialized by fear. The bright, porous optimism that defined him never fully vanished, but it became buried beneath discipline, scars, and a steady, watchful silence. An eyepatch now covered one eye, a reminder of the civil war he survived long before the greater galactic conflicts erupted. He moved with the calm precision of a veteran soldier, speaking less, observing more, and carrying himself with the quiet authority of someone who had seen entire cities fall. It was the year 2024 and the true source of the 𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂 gene had arrived, FreakyBob would show up and came in like a full raider. Juancarlo Albaez, a tough hero who was ruthless with justice serving liberalism, but deep down saught to save lives against enemies. Mr. Game & Watch was a far right terrorist who originally had his own personal terrorist group with various Nazis in different continuities, with the League of Gangstas. These two had a shared connection and interest in destorying anything that had a trace of the 𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂 gene.

Mr. Game and Watch and Juancarlo Albaez teamed up with BNL and FEET who ruled the multiverse in Pixar DreamWorks duel multiverse with evil and good versions of BNL and FEET becoming allies. Juancarlo Albaez and Mr. Game & Watch shaked hands at the UN with Talking Ben the God of that dimension along with Luitrich the Satan of that dimension. GangstaBob and GoodBob after years of hatred towards each other had a common enemy. the Freakers. FreakyBob would then unfold the Dimensional Merge and reveal his plan of the Nugetian Meat-cycle to the continuity of SpongeBob Fanon. GangstaBob who spent years understanding the Freaky gene had prepared for this moment and gathered as many of his former villians against this foe. FreakyBob and Dan Daffy Duck were hated and everyone hated them because deep down they were spreading the Frenized Flame. The Dimensional Merge would come and GangstaBob and GoodBob would never be the same, they would transform into FreakyBob's enemies in what is now the 5730s. GoodBob would join the Imperium and become a good Solider for the forever war between light and the new darkness known as Cum.

GoodBob and Patrick as they last stood in the war before the Collapse of Bikini Bottom.

Serving as a loyal member of the Imperium’s Good Society, he believed deeply in the idea that order and stability were the only safeguards against chaos. The once carefree fry cook had become a strategist, able to read battlefields as easily as he once read recipes. His experiences during the civil war taught him that enthusiasm alone could not save lives; discipline, sacrifice, and foresight were required. Those who fought beside him respected his judgment, for he rarely made a decision without considering its human cost. His commands were firm but never cruel, and he carried the weight of every loss as if it were personal. When the Heresy spread to Bikini Bottom, GoodBob witnessed horrors that reshaped his understanding of loyalty and corruption. Friends turned against friends, familiar streets became battlegrounds, and the innocence of his home dissolved into smoke and ruin. He saw how easily ideals could be twisted, how trust could fracture under pressure, and how even the kindest hearts could be consumed by fear. These memories haunted him, shaping the cautious, vigilant demeanor he now maintained. The laughter that once filled his world had been replaced by the distant echo of artillery and betrayal.

GoodBob losing everyone in the war. Squidward attacked by SWAT and gunned down during the infection. Forced to work with Macgyver, the Cigarette Smoking Man, and other members of the Good Society after the loss of his friends.

Despite everything, he remained deeply committed to protecting what little goodness survived. His version of hope was no longer loud or naïve; it was quiet and resilient. He mentored younger recruits with patience, reminding them that compassion was not weakness, even in war. In private moments, he would repair equipment with meticulous care, as if restoring broken tools helped him cope with the broken world around him. The eyepatch and scars made him look severe, but his actions revealed a core still guided by a desire to help others endure. This post-war SpongeBob stood as a symbol of survival rather than innocence. He represented how someone once defined by joy could adapt to a harsh universe without entirely losing their sense of right and wrong. Though shaped by conflict and shadowed by memory, he carried forward a belief that a better society was still worth fighting for. His presence alone reminded others that even in a galaxy defined by war, fragments of kindness and resolve could still persist.

In later campaigns, SpongeBob’s unit was deployed to coastal ruins overrun by the so-called Freakers, a relentless xenos breed that moved in swarms and learned from every failed assault. He studied their patterns with patient focus, mapping their routes through shattered streets and flooded corridors before committing his squad to action. Rather than charge headlong, he favored containment and rescue, carving safe paths for trapped civilians while drawing the creatures into controlled choke points. His tactics turned chaotic skirmishes into deliberate advances, and the Freakers—once thought unstoppable—were pushed back step by step through discipline and coordination.

These encounters demanded endurance more than heroics. The Freakers attacked in waves, testing morale as much as defenses, and SpongeBob kept his team steady with clear signals and quiet resolve. He rotated watch schedules, reinforced barricades, and never allowed panic to dictate movement. When ammunition ran low, he improvised with the environment, turning debris and narrow passages into advantages. Those who served under him learned that survival often depended on preparation rather than bravado. Battles against the forces of Chaos proved more unsettling. The enemy did not always appear as a visible threat but crept in through confusion, whispers, and doubt. SpongeBob recognized how easily fear could fracture unity, so he focused on maintaining trust within his ranks. He encouraged open communication, corrected rumors quickly, and reminded everyone of their shared purpose. In doing so, he blunted the psychological edge that Chaos relied upon to unravel defenses from within.

Even in the midst of these darker confrontations, his leadership emphasized restraint. He understood that reckless aggression could play directly into the enemy’s hands, so he advanced only when the situation was fully understood. Each engagement became a careful balance between action and patience, strength and awareness. Through measured decisions and steady guidance, SpongeBob helped his unit withstand threats that attacked both body and spirit, proving that resilience could counter even the most insidious forms of warfare.

Now and again, the two get into a fight that "ends" their friendship, though it is never enough to separate them permanently. Overall, the two appear inseparable.

Gary the Snail

Gary is SpongeBob's pet snail. The two share a bit of a father-son relationship. Gary can sometimes be annoyed by SpongeBob or refuse to take a bath, though the two do care about each other.

Squidward Tentacles

Squidward is SpongeBob's neighbor and coworker. SpongeBob considers Squidward his "friend" though Squidward, in reality, actually finds SpongeBob rather annoying, something SpongeBob is completely oblivious to. While the two will cooperate from time and again, Squidward will always return to disliking SpongeBob.

Sandy Cheeks

Sandy is a close friend of SpongeBob. The two first met in Kamp Koral and SpongeBob was the one to convince Sandy to pursue her dreams of being a scientist. SpongeBob will often times act as Sandy's lab partner. Though Sandy has had her share of being annoyed by SpongeBob, the two remain close.

Mr. Krabs

Mr. Krabs is SpongeBob's boss. SpongeBob looks up to his boss and Mr. Krabs appears to favor SpongeBob over his other employees, likely because SpongeBob is the hardest worker.

Enemies

Bubble Bass

Bubble Bass is SpongeBob's sworn enemy. The two often do not get along with Bubble Bass messing with SpongeBob as a means of getting free food. However, SpongeBob will always come back and show Bubble Bass up.

Plankton

SpongeBob and Plankton have a complicated relationship. SpongeBob often tries to keep the secret formula out of Plankton's reach. However, unlike Mr. Krabs, SpongeBob does this purely out of dedication to his job and has no personnel vendetta against Plankton. He is also shown to consider Plankton a friend when outside of work, though Plankton often does not view SpongeBob this way.

Family

Harold and Margaret SquarePants

Harold and Margaret are SpongeBob's parents. In his childhood, SpongeBob was very close to his parents, even learning his skills in life from them. As an adult, SpongeBob seems to wish to impress his parents as he acts more mature than he actually is and often does not realize they are already proud of him. He loves and relays on his parents, even wishing to stay with them when his house was temporarily destroyed.

SpongeTom SquarePants

SpongeTom is SpongeBob's older brother. In their childhood, SpongeTom often felt overshadowed by SpongeBob, something SpongeBob himself was unaware of. Despite this, they did get along, even inventing a game together and were both equally amused by their father's mishaps. As adults, SpongeBob reveals that he had always look up to his brother, prompting the two to reconcile and fix their relationship, SpongeBob even attending his brother's wedding.

Grandma SquarePants

Grandma SquarePants is SpongeBob's grandmother. SpongeBob enjoys when his grandmother bakes for him, reads him stories and the sweaters she makes him. However, when in public, SpongeBob can be somewhat embarrassed by this.
