Wintale is a roleplaying video game developed and self-published by Canadian screwball Windows 108, serving as a parody of Undertale (no shit, sherlock) with a slight pinch of the Omniverse Saga in it. The demo was originally showcased in a live stream before being released a few weeks later.
The game got a Midquel a few months later called Victale.
Description
The demo, known as "WinTale", consists of only one of the many main areas. You play as SpongeBob SquarePants. The demo begins when SpongeBob lands in Taksukakatoo, and it ends after Foo's encounter and Angela's judgement. It is notably less detailed and more buggy than the full game.
Enrique Mode
Named after the horrifying deity and omniversal punching bag himself, this route is also known as "Hard Mode". The following differences contain:
- Different and more difficult enemies that replace the enemies from other routes, such as Kermit the Frog now being Kermit the God.
- It's harder to flee a battle.
- In the room with the switches, none that are visible can be pressed and the labels wore away. There is a secret switch, however, that's camouflaging in the walls.
- Only three Cheesy Poofs can be taken instead of four.
- Foo's boss fight now borrows attacks from Bean Khan's boss fight and she has more ATK.
- Dragon and Shimmer's introduction is different, as Shimmer has nerves of steel in this hellish world when Dragon dares SpongeBob to scare her. This results in a few more fails at scaring before the cutscene continues as usual.
- Woody can be found and gives SpongeBob a scarf that increases his health from 20 to 25 on an NPC route.
- After Shimmer is spared, Goofy shows up and announces the end of Enrique Mode, and the rest of the game is inaccessible.
- If Shimmer is struck down, she stops dying when Goofy shows up.
- When the game is reset, the name of the player can be changed to avoid being stuck in hard mode forever.
Easter Eggs
Debug-Exclusive
- One room features a massive floating eyeball that can't be interacted with. Attempting to leave the room crashes the game.
Taksukakatoo
- If the player doesn't tap "Z" during the first part of the game where SpongeBob has to get up after falling down, the game will call them out for this.
- A Weegee can be found at the very bottom right corner in the first room of the game. It can't be interacted with.
- If the game is modified to use debug mode and the player reaches the last room in the game without fighting Foo, Angela will also call them out for this.
List of Encounters
Regular Encounters
General
- Enrique!
- As the Jerry of the game, Enrique has no attacks whatsoever and is hated by others if he appears with them in an encounter.
- He can be ditched, resulting in you and the others in the fight celebrating his disappearance.
- However, he returns after two or three turns.
- If everyone else is spared while Enrique is ditched, the battle will still end.
- He can be ditched, resulting in you and the others in the fight celebrating his disappearance.
- Enrique surprisingly has high defense (but obviously not as strong as in the Omniverse Saga!) and is hard to kill as a result. Due to this, he often takes around nine hits to kill.
- Enrique is always seen slowly licking an ice cream cone for some reason when he is encountered.
- If the player has high enough ATK, Enrique can immediately be spared.
- Sparing Enrique doesn't abort the Freaky route, as if even the player thinks Enrique is obnoxious and/or just wants to see him suffer with everyone else dead.
- The same cannot be said about the inversion, as killing Enrique still switches the route from NPC to Neutral.
- As the Jerry of the game, Enrique has no attacks whatsoever and is hated by others if he appears with them in an encounter.
Taksukakatoo
Neutral
- Kermit the Frog
- The Dark lord
- Shpak Romanov
- Larry the Cucumber
- In the demo, Larry can only be spared if his health is lowered. If he is eaten, this is considered a kill and SpongeBob will gain EXP. However, this isn't considered a kill in the full game.
- Crash
- Brian Greene
Enrique Mode
- Kermit the God
- Carter NEO
- Annilihator Greene
- Extra Freaky Shpak
- Larry the Durian
- Ultra Crash
Mini-Bosses
Neutral
- Garfield (average time to beat: less than a minute, or 34 seconds)
- On a Freaky route, if the kill counter is exhausted before fighting Garfield, he will not be seen for the remainder of the run.
- Enrique Mode never alters Garfield's difficulty, being the only encounter to do so. It's even acknowledged in his stats, stating "he was too lazy to get the memo".
- Peg Leg Pete (average time to beat: 6 minutes)
- He can be found in Taksukakatoo's sewers if the player chooses to go there. He is required to be beaten if one wants to explore all of the game as he holds the keys to the Kaka City subarea.
Enrique Mode
- Fantasy Kermit (average time to beat: 2 and a half minutes)
Boss Fights
Neutral
- Foo (average time to beat: 2 and a half minutes on Neutral, 40 seconds on Freaky)
Endings
Demo
The demo version of the game ends upon SpongeBob leaving Taksukakatoo. Different audio and visuals will accompany the game's logo on the credits screen depending on what route was taken:
NPC
A dialogue exchange between Dragon and Shimmer occurs, and the latter asks the player to make sure that they one day see the former's flying skills (by playing the full version).
Neutral
A credits screen is shown, but there's nothing of interest.
Freaky
Rather than the actual credits, red text that reads, "We've got more calls to make." will display.

Trivia
General/Miscellaneous
- There are a few differences between Wintale and the original Undertale.
- Hard Mode is expanded upon.
- Borders can be enabled on all platforms. While Undertale had this as well, it was only for the console versions.
- Pressing the ESC key brings up a pause menu, where the settings can be changed quickly. This can also be used to exit to the main menu or close the game.
- If the player doesn't move for some time, SpongeBob will eventually sit down on the ground.
- All fights now have backgrounds of where the fight is happening. Some boss fights may not follow this and have their own unique background instead.
- SpongeBob's icon can be seen to the left side of his name in fights.
- If the first Kermit (as in, the one Foo scares away) is killed, Foo will get mad at you for doing this.
- Every time SpongeBob dies, in addition to his soul breaking as usual, an animation where he has a heart attack and collapses will play. After this happens, Angela is shown in the background.
- After Foo gives the player a cell phone, she will also teach them the ability to run using "X". This is planned to be disabled in some sections of the full game to avoid making things too easy.
- Armor can be seen on SpongeBob in the overworld.
- A jingle plays when the Freaky route's requirements are met. When this happens, SpongeBob's eyes will be covered by a shadow and will permanently have his tongue out while his clothes and face are covered with blood.
- A different jingle plays when the route is aborted. Likewise, SpongeBob's appearance returns to normal.
- Luigi can be found in Taksukakatoo and will tell the player how much fun they're having by bringing up a percentage with the number of the FUN value as opposed to this never being mentioned at all in the game itself.
- While falling is the same, sometimes a spinning animation can be seen when it happens.
- The demo has some notable differences from the full game as well:
- Sparing injured enemies has SpongeBob gain EXP, where this can only be done by killing them. As Dragon would later explain, EXP stands for "execution points", so in hindsight it wouldn't make sense to earn any without killing anything.
- There is a Korean translation for the demo but not the full game for some reason.
- The "name the player" easter eggs are absent, with the exception of the name "Enrique" which activates hard mode for obvious reasons.
- The spare text is always white in the demo. This only happens in Enrique Mode in the full game, but asking Homer Simpson can turn the spare text pink.
- On the topic of Homer, neither he, Gollum, or Jack Sparrow can be found in the room after Garfield's fight. The ant-sized Kermit is also absent.
- Additionally, on Enrique Mode, the Fantasy Kermit mini-boss can't be encountered due to the ant-sized Kermit being completely absent.
- The encounter rate is higher in the demo.
- Pressing "C" when the "!" encounter icon appears prevents the encounter from happening.
- You have to attack Foo twice rather than just once on the Freaky route.
Story
Taksukakatoo
- When pressing the switches, there are a few planks over a hole beneath one of the switches, as a nod to Victale.
