“ HISSSSSSS!!!!!!!! ” -Ms. Fortune
Ms. Fortune (JP: ミス・フォーチュン Misu Fōchun), also referred to by her full name, Nadia Fortune (JP: ナディア・フォーチュン Nadia Fōchun), is a feline Feral who belonged to the Fishbone Gang, she was rendered undying when she swallowed the Life Gem she stole.
General Information[edit | edit source]
Ms. Fortune is a playable character in Skullgirls, she is one of the original eight playable characters and is the only character who bleeds in the game, excluding cutscenes. Her homestage is Little Innsmouth.
She underwent a serious character redesign from her initial concept after it was received poorly by the art team. Also, originally her power was that she was very lucky and was even capable of sucking luck away from others. There was some accident where her head would be chopped of which would render her "lucky" to survive but also unlucky to survive in such a way. Tony Zaret solved the paradox by reading a shitty Marvel comic about Arm-Fall-Off Boy, bringing her back "scattered", thus she became able to detach her limbs.
At first, Alex Ahad couldn't decide which character universe to put her in as she was originally just a cat-girl character he drew to coom!. He says that catgirls suck and it is rare to make catgirl characters interesting at all but he admits they can be fun. At some point he decided on making her a Skullgirls character. When she first came about her name was originally "Nickel Nicker" until it got changed to Ms. Fortune, fearing for obvious controversies, should someone try and say the name too quickly.
Personality[edit | edit source]
An abandoned creature who learned how to survive in the streets at an early age, Nadia Fortune is a crafty cat burglar with gleaming eyes for treasure. She used to have have friends but her need for wealth and hoarding took over what humanity she had remained.
Ms. Fortune's remnants of her light hearted persona persists in her giddiness for constant puns.
In her past, she had suffered greatly as much as other members of the cast as she's looking to resurrect her friends. She frequents Yu-Wan's restaurant and befriended with the people there, including Minette.
But after she learnt about the rings and the powers they bring and the immortality gained from eating the life gem. She her wants took top priority and molten her mind into a Machiavellian and psychotic creature, more feral than her previous light heartedly mischievous nature. With the shift of character completed when she slain Gollum and become the next ring bearer. She was quickly ghosted by the few friends she made and remained. All but Minette left, who did everything she did to bring back Nadia, but it was all in vain.
Her Final Friend Lost[edit | edit source]
Minette's final straw of patience with Fortune broke, when she took the Rang from her, attempting to destroy it. Only for Fortune to bite her hand off her wrist, reclaiming it, attempting to further mutilate her. Luckily Yu Wan attacked and overpowered Fortune before Minette could be further damaged. Ms. Fortune escaped into the night, never to be seen.
Character Basis[edit | edit source]
Name[edit | edit source]
Her title is a play on the word "misfortune" and originally an indicator of her power to manipulate luck, although said ability has since been removed. The name Nadia means "hope" in a number of languages, although it is mainly cited as having Slavic origins.
Design[edit | edit source]
Nadia is a tan-skinned, lithe young woman with light blue eyes and white hair styled in a bob cut. Her Feral features include long dark cat ears, tail, clawed hands and feet and a prominent canine that usually shows over her lower lip. She has a clean scar on her left cheek, while those on her neck, biceps, forearms, thighs, legs and feet are larger and more jagged.
She wears a thick black collar with a stylized cat bell that resembles the Life Gem, a light blue striped crop top with the underside of her breasts showing, a gray utility belt, black fingerless gloves, black hot pants and the remnants of her pantlegs (adjusted to appear a little more fashionable). In Skullgirls Mobile, it reveals that she used to wear full-length pants.
Story[edit | edit source]
Backstory[edit | edit source]
A feline feral, Nadia Fortune is the last surviving member of the Fishbone Gang, a notorious band of otherwise Dagonian thieves. Their last mission ended in tragedy: a failed attempt to steal the mysterious Life Gem from Lorenzo Medici resulted in their grisly murders. Before meeting her own doom, Ms. Fortune swallowed the Life Gem and managed to digest it. The Gem’s power immortalized her entire body, making it truly undying even after being dismembered.
Now hiding in the shadows of Little Innsmouth, Ms. Fortune plots to avenge her fallen comrades.
It's been stated by the devs that Fortune as a child was always with the gang. She was an orphan, and learned the art of thievery from them. She was always causing trouble.
Skullgirls 2nd Encore[edit | edit source]
After defeating the Skullgirl, Ms. Fortune obtains the Skull Heart. She could've wished for her old friends in the Fishbone gang to be brought back from the dead, but thinks that her new friends are enough for her so she destroys the Skull Heart.
When she returns she is informed that her friend Minette had been abducted along with other young girls in the Little Innsmouth area. She is told by Irvin, a local detective, that the Medici family was involved in the kidnappings. So the two decide to go after the Medici family and save the girls.
Abilities & Fighting Style[edit | edit source]
Befitting her feline traits, Ms. Fortune is an agile fighter with sharp senses and sharper claws. Her true strength, however, is drawn from the Life Gem that she swallowed prior to her "death". The gem gave her nearly-unlimited regenerative abilities, allowing her to recover from numerous injuries that would kill normal beings (such as decapitation and dismemberment). When she was a young orphan, she learned the art of thievery from the Fishbone Gang.
In addition to her regenerative powers, Ms. Fortune also has precise control over her own body parts, an ability that figures heavily into her fighting style. She can extend her muscles and tendons to add force to her blows or give her attacks greater reach, release jets of blood from her legs to propel herself on the ground and in the air, and even detach her limbs completely to strike opponents and set up surprise attacks. One of her signature tactics even uses her own head as a projectile or bludgeon before leaving it on the ground to act as a secondary attacker. She also has the ability to stiffen her tail for use as a katana-like blade, either attached or detached from her body.
She can also harden her body parts such as her ears and tail to use as weapons which is a Feral special ability.
