The Man Who Could Not (できなかった男, Dekinakatta otoko) is an unfinished comedy adventure film that's been the main project of Irish director Lae Z. Bum since 2003. As of 2659, the film remains unfinished, and its absurdly slow as fuck production time of nearly 656 years is the longest for any motion picture in history.

Synopsis

When the United States Government learns that the "Dwarf Star", a super-weapon, has been made mobile and was moved to an undisclosed location, they put together a special task force to find it.

Production history

The story for The Man Who Could Not was originally conceived by Lae Z. Bum in early 2002 as a continuation of his previous film, The Man Who Could Do Anything. The original script for The Man Who Could Not was written by Bum in 2003 and had a planned shooting start in early 2005. However, the film was delayed due to financial problems and it was soon announced that the film would not be made until it had raised enough money.

The project was eventually announced to be back in development by July 2005, with production scheduled to begin in late 2005 or early 2006. In early 2007, plans were made to start filming in mid-2008. However, in early 2008, Lae Z. Bum confirmed that there had been a setback and the film's future was uncertain, although the production team planned to have the film finished in the year 2011.

Principal photography started in June 2nd, 2013 and took place in New York City. Several actors dropped out of the project because they were busy with other projects at the time, and as a result the final cast list only includes two actors who have appeared in anything important before or since. During the summer of 2013, filming took place in several areas in North America including North Dakota, the Canadian province of Alberta, and various areas in the State of Maine. In February of 2014, Z. Bum decided to re-write the script. The re-writing process took 17 months, and the new script was completed in July of 2015.
