The Outer Gods of Chaos (外なる邪神, Sotonaru Jashin), also referred to as True Darkness, are the main antagonists of the CrösS;OVEr franchise and are the epitome and supreme leaders of all eldritch abominations within the Known Omniverse while also being the supreme deities that the ⛧ 𝐍𝐞𝐨-𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 ⛧ worship and revere. They are not to be confused with the Great Old Gods, who are right below the daemon hierarchy to the Outer Gods. They and their forces of chaos and darkness serve as the greatest enemies and threats to the 𝕴𝖒𝖕𝖊𝖗𝖎𝖚𝖒 𝖔𝖋 𝕲𝖔𝖉𝖘 and all other xeno factions within the entire Known Omniverse, even if they are not fully aware yet of the danger they pose. They are to the Great Old Gods, what the latter are to mortals. Needless to say, this makes the Outer Gods so utterly alien and vast that no mortal could ever dream of beginning to understand them, though many have tried (at the cost of their sanity). Initially, there were thirteen, but there are now only eight known Outer Gods.
The Outer Gods serve as cosmic forces relating to two major abstract and conceptual elements, those two being darkness and chaos. Their origins are a complete mystery to viewers and most characters, but what is known is that they are one, if not the oldest beings to exist in the Known Omniverse, and may have existed before it was even conceived. They have been locked in an eternal battle with the light and order, resulting in them becoming and being very monomaniacal. The Master of Masters has stated that the Outer Gods have no sense of reason and are extremely difficult to understand because their thought processes are completely alien to humans. As noted by Brain, however, the Outer Gods are a very strategic and calculating force.
Generally speaking, they are located beyond the confines of all universes and the Realm of Light, exerting their influence from the deep outerversal depths known as Hell. In terms of hierarchy, the Outer Gods are the supreme leaders of all heartless/shades, possessing complete control and manipulation over dark and chaos magic. The Outer Gods are not aligned together in a set belief and instead, each Outer God has its own motives and goals which may or not contradict with other Outer Gods.
